Volunteering at the Library

Volunteers are the heart of our library and essential for providing books and services to the community.   If you are interested in volunteering, please stop by the library and speak with our library manager for more information or download our printable Volunteer Application.  Mail Application to PO Box 166, Blowing Rock, NC 28605 or stop by!  You do not need to be a member to volunteer or a volunteer to be a member, although many do both.

Volunteer Opportunities

 

Front Desk: Volunteers work at the front desk of the library welcoming visitors and assisting with book circulation. We have two volunteer shifts each day the library is open. Shifts are once a week, for 3 hours per shift. All Positions Currently Filled.

​Open Positions:​​​​​

​

• Front Desk Substitutes:  Volunteers train to work the front desk (see above) and substitute when our regular front desk volunteers need time off.  Front Desk Substitute is a prerequisite for becoming a Front Desk Regular. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.

​

• Summer Event Volunteers: Assist with our summer hot dog sales during Art in the Park, other May - October events and tasks. Does not require library experience.  Summer residents often enjoy event volunteering as a way to contribute and meet new people! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ART IN THE PARK!

  • Tent/Table Setup (Friday Mornings before Art in the Park)​

  • Chili Chef - Make Hot Dog Chili from our Famous Recipe

  • Condiment Chef - Chop Onions, Chop Cabbage, Make Slaw

  • Sales - Customer Service

  • Runners - Help Move supplies from the Kitchen to the Tents

  • Tear Down/Clean Up - Help clean up after or Take down Tents/Chairs

  • Raffle Ticket Sales - Help guests with the purchase of raffle tickets.

• Author Talks (Experience Preferred) - A volunteer to help with Author Talk event coordination. Prior involvement with Author engagement preferred but not required.  FILLED for 2026.​
